Asafoetida (Hing) A pinch
Garlic 5 cloves, finely chopped
Red Chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Lentils:
    Start by washing the chana dal, green moong dal, and urad dal thoroughly a couple of times to remove any dirt. Once washed, soak them together in a bowl with enough water for about 2 hours. This step ensures the dals cook evenly and become soft.

  2. Cook the Dal:
    After the soaking time is complete, drain the water from the dals. Transfer them to a pressure cooker. Add salt to taste, turmeric powder, chopped green chili, chopped tomatoes, and finely chopped ginger to the cooker. Pour in about 3 cups of water to help cook the dals.

  3. Pressure Cook:
    Secure the lid of the pressure cooker and cook the mixture on medium-high heat. Pressure cook the dal for 4 whistles, then turn off the heat and allow the pressure to release naturally. Once the pressure has released, carefully open the lid.

  4. Mash the Dal:
    Using a spoon or a hand masher, gently mash the dals to your desired consistency. You can mash them lightly or leave some texture if you prefer a chunkier dal. Stir the dal well and set it aside.

  5. Prepare the Tadka (Tempering):
    In a small pan, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee over medium heat. Once the ghee is hot, add cumin seeds (jeera) and let them splutter for a few seconds. Add a pinch of asafoetida (hing) and finely chopped garlic. SautΓ© the garlic until it turns golden brown and releases its aromatic flavor.

  6. Combine Tadka with Dal:
