Tempe Goreng Lapis Telur (Egg-Coated Fried Tempe) – MSG-Free Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 block tempe (adjust to preference)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 clove garlic
  • As needed: candlenuts
  • As needed: salt

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Spice Mixture:

    • Start by finely grinding the garlic, salt, and candlenuts using a mortar and pestle. Add just enough water to the mixture to achieve a smooth, consistent paste. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  2. Prepare the Tempe:

    • Slice the tempe according to your preference. For a crispier texture, slice it thinly.
  3. Marinate the Tempe:

    • Coat each slice of tempe with the prepared spice mixture, ensuring that all pieces are evenly covered. Set aside.
  4. Prepare the Egg Mixture:

    • Crack the egg into a bowl and beat it until well mixed.
  5. Coat the Tempe:

    • For a crispy, egg-coated finish, dip each slice of spiced tempe into the beaten egg, ensuring it is fully coated.
  6. Fry the Tempe:

    • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Gently place the egg-coated tempe slices into the hot oil. Fry until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  7. Drain and Serve:

    • Once fried, transfer the tempe slices to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot and enjoy!

Note:

  • If you prefer tempe without the egg coating, simply fry the marinated tempe slices until golden brown without dipping them in the egg.

Enjoy this delicious, MSG-free tempe recipe that is perfect as a snack or a flavorful addition to any meal!
