Crispy Tahu Rambutan (Indonesian Tofu Balls)

Ingredients:

  • 3 blocks of tofu
  • 2-3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Crushed noodle (use half a pack of egg noodles)
  • Oil, for frying
  • Sambal sauce, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Begin by thoroughly mashing the tofu until it reaches a smooth consistency. Ensure there are no large lumps remaining to achieve a uniform texture.

  2. Mix the Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed tofu with all-purpose flour, salt, and black pepper. Stir until the ingredients are well incorporated and the mixture holds together.

  3. Form the Balls: Shape the tofu mixture into small, round balls. The size can be adjusted based on your preference, but aim for uniformity to ensure even cooking.

  4. Coat with Noodles: Roll each tofu ball in the crushed noodle pieces, ensuring they are evenly coated. This will give the tofu balls a delightful crispy texture once fried.

  5. Fry the Tofu Balls: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Carefully add the coated tofu balls to the hot oil. Fry them in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and cooked through. This should take about 4-5 minutes per batch.

  6. Drain and Serve: Once fried, remove the tofu balls from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  7. Enjoy: Serve the crispy tofu balls with a side of sambal sauce for dipping. They make a perfect snack or appetizer.

Feel free to adjust the seasoning and serving sauce according to your taste preferences. Enjoy your deliciously crispy Tahu Rambutan!
