Nugget Tempe Recipe

Ingredients

All-purpose flour 4 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Steam the Tempe: Begin by steaming the tempe for 15 minutes to soften it.
  2. Mash the Tempe: Once steamed, mash the tempe using either a mortar and pestle or a blender until it reaches a smooth consistency.
  3. Mix Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed tempe with the ground spices, egg, all-purpose flour, and breadcrumbs. Use your hands to mix until everything is well incorporated. Don’t forget to taste and adjust the seasoning.
  4. Steam the Mixture: Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish and steam for an additional 15 minutes.
  5. Cut into Pieces: After steaming, allow it to cool slightly and then cut the mixture into your desired nugget shapes.
  6. Prepare Coating: Set up two bowls: one with all-purpose flour mixed with a little water to create a thick batter, and the second with breadcrumbs.
  7. Coat the Nuggets: Dip each nugget first into the flour batter, then roll it in the breadcrumbs until evenly coated.
  8. Fry: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the nuggets until they are golden brown and crispy.

Tips

For a less oily result, skip the egg in the coating mixture to prevent the frying oil from bubbling excessively.
