  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

Step Description
1 Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2 In a mixing bowl, beat the butter until soft, then add the white sugar and baking powder, continuing to beat until well combined.
3 Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth. Gradually add the cocoa and as much flour as you can blend in with the mixer.
4 When the dough becomes too stiff for the mixer, gently fold in the remaining flour by hand until fully incorporated.
5 Stir in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
6 Divide the dough into two equal parts and shape each into a loaf measuring approximately 9 x 2 x 1 inches.
7 Place the loaves onto a baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced about 4 inches apart.
8 In a small bowl, mix together the water and milk, then brush this mixture over the tops of the loaves.
9 Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the loaves are set and lightly golden.
10 Allow the baked loaves to cool on the baking sheet for approximately 30 minutes.
11 Once cooled, use a sharp knife to cut the loaves into 1/2-inch thick slices, diagonally.
12 Place the slices cut-side down on the baking sheet and return them to the oven, now set to 350°F (165°C).
13 Bake for an additional 15 minutes, then flip the biscotti over and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until they are dry and crisp.
