Moong Dal Tadka Recipe

Ingredients:
- 1-1/2 cups yellow moong dal
- 4 tomatoes
- 2-inch piece ginger
- 4 green chillies
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 2 tsp cumin powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- Salt, to taste
- Water, as needed
- Oil, for tempering
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 70 minutes
Instructions:
- Start by blending tomatoes, ginger, and green chillies into a smooth paste. Set aside.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan, and add cumin seeds. Let them cook for 30 seconds.
- Add the prepared tomato, ginger, and green chilli paste to the pan. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Continue to cook for another 5 minutes.
- Add the yellow moong dal to the pan and let it cook for 2 minutes.
- Add 1-1/2 cups of water and mix everything well. Allow the dal to cook for 20 to 30 minutes, checking periodically and adding more water if necessary. Cook until the dal is soft and fully cooked.
- In a separate tadka pan, heat 2 tablespoons of ghee. Add cumin seeds and red chilli powder. Stir for 30 seconds.
- Pour the ghee tempering into the cooked dal and mix thoroughly.
- Serve the Moong Dal Tadka hot, paired with Sev Tomato Sabzi and phulkas for a complete meal.
