Pyaz Wali Bhindi (Onion Ladyfinger) Recipe

Pyaz Wali Bhindi is a simple and flavorful dish where ladyfinger (bhindi) is cooked with onions and traditional Indian spices. This vegetarian sabzi is perfect for a quick lunch, a side dish, or packed in a lunch box.

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams ladyfinger (bhindi)
  • 1-inch piece ginger, peeled and grated
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons oil

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Begin by washing the ladyfinger (bhindi) thoroughly. Trim off the stems and cut them into 1-inch pieces. Set them aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and sauté for about 10 seconds until they release their aroma.
  3. Add the sliced onions and grated ginger to the pan. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions become soft and brown.
  4. Add the ladyfinger pieces, salt, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Mix well to coat the ladyfinger with the spices.
  5. Cover the pan and cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the ladyfinger softens and becomes tender.
  6. Once cooked, remove from heat and serve hot.
