Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a mortar, grind together the turmeric, coriander, and a pinch of salt until smooth. Clean the Nile tilapia thoroughly and marinate with the spice mixture.

  2. Make the Spice Paste: In a separate bowl, blend garlic, shallots, small chilies, large chilies, and roasted candlenuts with some salt and sugar until you achieve a paste. Sauté this mixture in a little oil until fragrant, adding a splash of water and sweet soy sauce to create a sauce.

  3. Combine and Marinate: Gently add the marinated Nile tilapia and chopped tempeh into the sautéed spice mixture. Allow it to sit for a few minutes, letting the flavors meld together.

  4. Grill the Fish and Tempeh: Preheat a non-stick skillet with a little margarine over medium heat. Grill the marinated fish and tempeh until the liquid has evaporated and they develop a nice golden color, flipping once to avoid breaking apart.

  5. Prepare the Tomato Salsa: While the fish and tempeh are grilling, blend the tomato, garlic, shallots, chilies, shrimp paste, salt, and sugar together to create a vibrant salsa.

  6. Serve: Once the tilapia and tempeh are perfectly grilled, serve them hot alongside steaming rice and your freshly made tomato salsa. Enjoy this delightful dish bursting with flavors!
