Ingredients:
- 6 tablespoons margarine
- 6 tablespoons flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 8 cups milk
- 2 cups macaroni
- 1/2 pound American cheese, grated or cubed
- 1/2 pound cheddar cheese, grated or cubed
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup breadcrumbs

- In a medium saucepan, melt the margarine over medium heat.
- Stir in salt and flour, cooking until bubbly.
- Gradually add one cup of milk to the flour mixture, whisking until smooth.
- Slowly whisk in the remaining milk, one cup at a time, and cook until the sauce thickens slightly and bubbles.

- Spread the cooked macaroni evenly in a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
- Add the grated or cubed American and cheddar cheese to the hot white sauce, placing it over hot water until the cheese melts. Stir until smooth.
- Mix in the salt, black pepper, and dry mustard into the cheese sauce.
