Prepare the Sauce:
- In a medium saucepan, combine 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup flour, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Mix well. π₯π―
- Gradually stir in 1 cup water, 2 tablespoons vinegar, and 1/4 cup molasses. Keep stirring until the mixture is smooth. π§πΆ
- Cook over medium heat, continuously stirring, until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside. π²π₯
-
Prepare the Apples:
- Arrange the sliced apples (4-5 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced) in a well-greased 12x8x2-inch baking dish. ππ΄
- Pour the prepared sauce over the apples, ensuring they are well coated. ππ₯
-
Add Spices:
- Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg evenly over the apples. π°β¨
- Dot the apples with 2 tablespoons butter for a rich flavor. π§π
-
Prepare the Biscuit Batter:
- In a mixing bowl, sift together 1 cup flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and 3/4 teaspoon salt. π₯£π
- Cut in 3 tablespoons butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. You can use a pastry cutter or two knives for this step. πͺπ
- Gradually add 3/4 cup milk, stirring just until the dry ingredients are dampened and a dough forms. Do not overmix. π₯π₯£
-
Top the Apples:
- Drop spoonfuls of the biscuit batter over the apples, covering the surface as evenly as possible. ππͺ
-
Bake:
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes. ππ₯
-
Mid-Bake Adjustment:
- After 30 minutes, remove the dish from the oven. Using a fork, break through the biscuit topping and gently push it down among the apples. This helps to integrate the flavors and ensure the topping bakes well with the apples. ππͺπͺ
- Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. ππ₯
-
Serve:
- Once done, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool slightly. ππͺ
- Serve the Apple Pandowdy warm. If desired, top with a splash of cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat. π¦π
Enjoy this delicious and comforting dessert with your family and friends! It’s perfect for any gathering and sure to be a hit. ππ½οΈπ¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦
