Doggy Treats Recipe

🐶🎄🍪

Overview:
Doggy Treats are a delightful homemade Christmas gift for our furry friends, loved by both kids and dogs alike! Crafted with care and packed with wholesome ingredients, these treats are a joy to make and share during the holiday season. Although I don’t have a dog myself, I cherish the tradition of creating these treats with my grandchildren to fill stockings for their beloved pets. Let’s dive into the recipe and spread some tail-wagging cheer!

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 45 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour and 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 3 1/2 cups unbleached flour
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons powdered milk
  • 1/2 cup bulgur wheat
  • 2 tablespoons cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tablespoons milk

Instructions:

  1. Activate Yeast:
In a mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Allow it to sit until the yeast bubbles, indicating activation.

  2. Combine Ingredients:
Once the yeast is activated, add all the remaining ingredients except for the egg and milk. Mix thoroughly until a stiff dough forms.

  3. Roll Out Dough:
Roll the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch using a rolling pin on a floured surface.

  4. Cut Shapes:
Use a bone-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the treats from the dough. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  5. Prepare Glaze:
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk to create a glaze.

  6. Brush with Glaze:
Brush the tops of the treats with the prepared egg and milk glaze. This will give them a shiny finish when baked.

  7. Bake:
Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Place the treats in the oven and bake for 45 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crisp.

  8. Cool and Store:
Once baked, remove the treats from the oven and allow them to cool completely. For extra crunchiness, leave them out overnight to dry. Once cooled, store the treats in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
