Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 100 grams Shimeji mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped
  • 5 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 10 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Cooking oil, as needed
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

For Marinade:

  • A small piece of ginger
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 5 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • Water, as needed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: Clean and thinly slice the beef sirloin. For optimal flavor, marinate the beef with the marinade ingredients. To do this, blend the ginger, garlic, oyster sauce, soy sauce, black pepper, and salt with a bit of water until smooth. Coat the beef slices in this marinade and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. For best results, marinate overnight in the refrigerator.

  2. Cook the Beef: Heat some cooking oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and diced onion, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant. Sprinkle in the black pepper powder and mix well.

  3. Add the Beef: Add the marinated beef along with the marinade to the skillet. Stir-fry until the beef is browned and cooked through.

  4. Incorporate the Sauces: Pour in about one cup of water, then add the sweet soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and oyster sauce. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

  5. Add Vegetables: Introduce the Shimeji mushrooms and diced green bell pepper to the skillet. Stir to mix everything evenly. Continue to cook over medium heat until the liquid reduces and the dish thickens. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent burning.

  6. Final Adjustments: Once the sauce has thickened and the beef is tender, taste and adjust seasoning with salt or additional black pepper if needed.

  7. Serve: Turn off the heat and garnish with sesame seeds. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.

Enjoy this savory and flavorful Black Pepper Beef with Mushrooms, a dish that’s sure to be a hit at your next meal!
